10 cm of organic latex, 400 gsm of organic wool, organic cotton and bamboo cover.
Thick, safe, supportive, comfortable, cosy, non-humid, temperature regulated, entirely non-toxic, entirely plant/tree based, organic, dust-mite resistant.
No plastics, steel, springs, synthetics, glues, sagging, hard surfaces, toxic emissions from foam.
The Progeny 10 has a flexible but highly supportive surface. This matches the New Zealand Ministry of Health mattress guidelines of 'firm and flat'. What's more, the surface is breathable through a cotton and bamboo yarn knit, and a thick layer of carded (intermeshed) wool.
Latex smoothly contours while cradling and gently distributing baby's weight. Evenly distributed support so it feels the same for baby anywhere on the mattress, right up to the sides.
Latex foaming is a natural process. Pure latex tree sap is whipped into frothy bubbles and permanently heat cured into a pure rubber foam. This foam has no toxic emissions, retains shape for years, does not rot or decompose for decades, is naturally dust-mite resistant and, if kept in a normal dry environment, is immune to mould.
Infant mattresses should fit snugly into the frame, without leaving any gaps. If you want to order, simply measure the inner sides of your frame. We will make to those specifications.
Our customer feedback suggests that bassinets are used for up to one year with each child.
We expect the latex foam itself to last for over twenty years, retaining it's shape and elasticity. The quilted cover can be unzipped and dry cleaned.
The latex in this mattress is 100% organic and has been certified by GOLS International Testing Organisation to be ethically and sustainably grown in EcoLatex's Sri-Lankan plantation. The wool is certified GOTS organic, sourced from Southdown sheep raised on New Zealand free range farms. The cover fabric is a blend of organic cotton and bamboo that combines breathability and strength.
We make to your dimensions. Simply measure the inner dimensions of your cot or bassinet frame. We think that the safest and most comfortable setup is to have the cot mattress fit tightly up against the rails on either side - so that there is no gap - and right up to the head and foot boards/rails.
Each mattress has a zip-off cover that can be dry cleaned (hand washing will cause the quilted wool layer to shrink).
The latex core can be wiped clean and dried outside in the shade. Latex foam isn't damaged by water, but can take a long time to dry out.
The latex will last for decades, so with care this mattress can last for generations.
We recommend using a breathable and waterproof mattress protector on top of this mattress and under baby's sheet. We recommend a careful choice of natural blanket to suit the season and room temperature.
I am writing to commend you on the beautiful cot mattress I received from you yesterday. I'm so pleased with it, I'm a little bit jealous of my daughter!
I will recommend Futonz to friends. So supportive and well made.
